My Journey with Fitness and Nutrition
Hey! For those of you who are just meeting me, I’m Morgan Steele. I’m your typical all-American girl. I love sports, dogs, coffee, the outdoors, and I'm just one of the thousands of CrossFitters out there who love working hard.
Since I was about 13 years old, I have struggled with body image and weight loss. I played year around Soccer most of my life and did a ton of other activities and sports growing up but no matter what I was just bigger and thicker than all the other girls my age.
In high school, I started my endless relationship with dieting, I wanted nothing more than to be skinny and small. I bought into every gimmick diet, magic pill, and workout fad there was. I would lose a couple of pounds and then gain it all back.
In 2008, I joined the Army and that is when the real toxic relationship with food truly began. I was required to meet a height and weight standard. At 64 inches, I needed to weigh 145lbs and that wasn’t a weight that was easy for me to achieve. I constantly battled with the scale and even though I met the standard for the “tape test” (a test in which they measure your body fat), I was mortified and HATED my body.
In 2013, after years of battling with myself, working-out too much and not eating enough, I discovered CrossFit and the way I looked at EVERYTHING changed. For the first time in my life I didn't want to be skinny anymore, I wanted to be STRONG.
Rather than starve myself, I decided to accept my body for what it is and focus on what it can do!
I had to learn how to recover, how to get stronger, how to fuel my workouts, minimize stress, and optimize sleep. I was trying to hack my life from supplementation to hydration. I couldn't believe that owning my nutrition, eating more carbs, proteins, and fats ACTUALLY helped me lose weight!
Nutrition absolutely fascinated me! I took as many courses as I could, read as many blogs, articles, and books that was out there! I took the time and learned how to hack the human body! Eventually, I started to coach CrossFit in 2014 and it changed my life. It took me from a lost 24 year old with no direction, to wanting to help as many people as possible live healthier lives!
